PacoDunks Blog #5: Riding the Highs

Yes, hello. This blog is not dead. After dealing with so much reel and content creation on Instagram, I just took a small hiatus from writing. Now that It's a rest day, I don't have to post any training footage today. So, I decided to sit down, reflect on my progress and how I did these two weeks, and give you guys an in-depth look at how my life is currently–what I post on Instagram is only the tip of the iceberg, so like I said last blog, you are getting the inside scoop of what's going on my head if you've stumbled on this humble page of mine.  I want to start with the podcast I had with my guy Cameron last Sunday, aka Camydunks. Like all the guests I've had in the past, Camy is a super humble and down-to-earth guy who made me feel super comfortable and chilled when talking to him. One of the major takeaways we discussed is the importance of having a good coach like John Evans and his team of THP coaches. I'm not tryna to 'glaze' the THP service, but ...

PacoDunks Blog 4: Breakthroughs

Why hello! Yes, if you are reading this passage, there is a high chance that you are new to my account and blog. Recently, something happened: I blew the F*CK up on Instagram from this stupid Ashton Hall parody, and my phone kept buzzing every minute. It felt surreal. It also felt amazing. I never knew that something I could do could reach such a large audience, and from my hometown, Hong Kong, that's exciting, brother.  So, if you aren't catching up with my progress, here's a rundown of what happened this past week: I've had a podcast with the one and only Michael Kennelly (super humble guy), and then I posted a meme of me pretending to be Ashton hall, I added some elements related to dunking and added my personal twist to it, BOOM, it went viral. It was an overnight phenomenon, and I didn't expect the video to turn out so well. I thought only my good dunker friends would see it, but instead, I received a lot of overall positive reception from Hong Kong.  This is ...

PacoDunks Blog #3: Highs and Lows

Hello, this is Paco checking in for the third blog issue. I had huge breakthroughs this microcycle, but there were still a lot of mental blocks along the way, as well as doubts and confusion about my future university path. One thing's for sure, though: I'm jumping higher than before by a smidgen. On Thursday, I had the opportunity to do a podcast with my guy, Nathan George. Being a year 6 THP athlete and obtaining a 44-inch vertical, he's really down to earth and was willing to share his thoughts as a dunker and an athlete. For context, Nathan was one of the main reasons I joined John's coaching– seeing a scrawny kid blossom into an elite dunker was inspirational. His story should be shared with fellow dunkers starting out (like me).  We delved into a variety of topics both on the pod and off camera, from weight gain to dealing with injuries and mental health. However, the topic that piqued my interest was the difference between US and UK basketball, despite my not in...

PacoDunks Blog #2: creating dunk content as an innately born introvert

Hi, it's me again. Yes, it's Paco. I hope you aren't too annoyed by me after my long-winded article last week. I had a blast writing that blog, so I might as well start early and get this done. I have so much on my mind that I don't know where to start, but I'll try my best to elaborate on my thoughts. It's been a week since my social media presence has been active. I posted my first reels and podcast with Juan Pescador last Sunday. It was such a blast connecting with so many like-minded dunkers that I often forget that we're miles away from each other. Having lived in Hong Kong for 19 years, I have yet to discover a community as supportive as the dunking community. I've only known the guys for a few months! I had my first podcast with my boy Juan Pescador on March 30th. To give you all some context, I met Juan through the Skool community on THP, and he has always been contributing to the THP community by providing constructive feedback and complimen...

Humble Beginnings (Blog #1)

“Yo Paco, touch the net!” The year was 2018. It was a boiling summer in SCC, a local secondary school located in the small town of Tuen Mun, Hong Kong . Having just finished my primary school education, I stood before the basketball hoop at the court. I was tall for my age, sure, but extremely scrawny  and weak for my frame. Yet, I wanted to do it. Something in my guts told me to jump up as high as I humanly could, and slap the net with all my might. As I rubbed my hands, readied my feet, a small crowd of students began to gather around me. The adrenaline rushed through my veins, and I was ready. I squatted down, swung my arms violently, and I jumped. I barely scraped through the bottom of the net, and landed on the floor with a resounding “thud” . “Eh, it was alright.” As my classmates slowly walked away from the court, I stood there with a smile. I did it . I’ve touched the net. Despite the feat being somewhat unassuming, even for a lower-form student, I was overwhelmed with joy....
